We are at the forefront of driving sustainable solutions for steel production throughout the value chain. By becoming the first in the
country, Lloyds Metals has pioneered advanced beneficiation technology to upgrade BHQ (Banded Hematite Quartzite) into a high-grade iron concentrate, unlocking its true potential as a valuable resource for the steel industry. Exemplifying a waste-to-wealth strategy, BHQ, a low-grade iron ore with iron bands of hematite and quartzite ranging from microns to millimetres in size, typically contains 20-35% iron, making its direct use in steelmaking impractical, is now being converted into high-grade iron ore in our facility at Hedri.
This initiative aligns with our broader vision of sustainable mining and value addition, reducing waste, minimizing environmental impact, and supporting the nation’s growing steel demand with an innovative, eco-friendly approach.
By enabling the production of high-purity raw materials, BHQ beneficiation supports the transition to green steel, aligning with global efforts to lower the carbon footprint of industrial manufacturing.
Beneficiation of BHQ allows mining operations to extract more iron content from the same land area, improving resource efficiency. By upgrading low-grade ore to high-grade concentrates, we are maximising output without increasing land footprint. This reduces environmental disruption and ensures sustainable land management.
