DRC, Africa

Lloyds Metals & Thriveni has strategically entered the global copper value chain to support the world’s transition toward electrification and renewable energy. Our presence in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)—the world’s premier copper-cobalt geological zone—is managed through two primary strategic pillars: Nexus Holdco and the Chemaf Group.

Strategic ownership in Nexus Holdco

Drawing from our proven blueprint in India, Lloyds is replicating its success in the DRC by intertwining large-scale mineral production with deep-rooted community development. At the heart of its African operations—spanning the Surya Mines and the Chemaf Group—is a commitment to the “Social License to Operate,” where local acceptance is earned through transparency and tangible socio-economic impact. By implementing sustainable mining practices and ESG frameworks we are focusing on local employment, healthcare infrastructure, and ethical operations. This strategy ensures that as the company scales to meet the global demand for copper and cobalt, it does so not just as an extractor, but as a long-term partner in the DRC’s industrial and social evolution.

Strategic Expansion: The Chemaf Group Acquisition

In March 2026, LMEL further solidified its DRC footprint through the acquisition of the Chemaf Group via Virtus Lloyds Minerals Holding (VLMH).

  • Etoile Mine & Plant: Currently operational with a capacity of 20,000 TPA Copper and 4,000 TPA Cobalt.
  • Mutoshi Project: A world-class development project in the advanced stages of construction, projected to add 50,000 TPA Copper and 16,000 TPA Cobalt to the portfolio.
  • Total Resource Depth: Access to 50+ mining permits and exploration licenses across the DRC.
